Time to give your personal protection plan a review? We’re here to help. Starting with assessing what you actually need, then helping you review the options.
Ah, life – unpredictable, fast-paced, ever-changing. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up, let alone plan it out. But you also know that making plans and achieving goals is what makes life worth the while.
Life insurance is designed to protect the goals you’ve achieved and those you have in the works, if you’re no longer around. It will provide your loved ones with a lump sum and the flexibility to use it as they wish: to get mortgage-free, clear debt, create wealth, and keep their future on track.
Can you think of anything more important than your health? You may have heard it before: "Your health is your greatest wealth". And insurance can help you take care of both health and wealth. With health cover, you can get faster access to private treatment and diagnosis, and in some cases, even non-Pharmac (unfunded) medications, like certain life-extending cancer medications. All this without having to wait a long time in the public health system, and most importantly, without paying the cost of treatment in full out of your pocket.
Becoming seriously ill is not something any of us like to contemplate. And while trauma insurance can’t help you avoid this scenario altogether, it's there for another good reason – to provide you with a much-needed financial safety net. It’s paid out as a tax-free lump sum upon diagnosis of over 40 different serious conditions, which usually include cancer, strokes and heart attacks. The amount is up to you, and so is how you’ll use it, be it time off work, repaying debt or a mortgage, top-notch treatments or – why not – some well-deserved quality time with the family.
Your income might well be your most important asset (along with your health, of course). Your current lifestyle and future goals depend on it. But what if you suddenly lost that ability? For how long would your savings support you? Would you need extra time to action your backup plan? That’s where income protection can step in, by replacing up to 75 per cent of your gross income, for as long as you decide, after a wait period of your choice. A much-needed respite, as you focus on getting back on your feet.
There’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all cover. There are, however, different types of insurance, designed to protect your financial life from different angles. Life, health, income protection and trauma are just some common examples. If you have a home loan to pay off, you may also consider mortgage protection insurance: it does exactly what it says on the tin, covering the cost of your mortgage repayments if a serious illness or injury puts you off work. And then there’s total permanent disablement insurance (or TPD): once again, it’s not something pleasant to think about, but it might be worth considering it. And on this note, need help navigating your options? We're here, always.

A few words from our clients
My wife and I have been working with Scott for a few years now, and he advises our family for the insurance policies we have in place. Scott is very knowledgeable in the insurance industry and is always transparent and honest with his communication. Scott always holds the clients interest’s first and foremost which is a great attribute for a Financial Adviser. I recommend his services to anyone looking at their personal or business insurance policies.
I have been a client with Scott at Custom Financial both personally and through my business for over 15 years. Throughout this time Scott has always exceeded my expectations.I have a number of policies with some being very complex. Scott and his team continue to manage all of these with the highest level of confidence and experience. Nothing is a problem for Scott and I can highly recommend him.
Scott was very professional and helped my wife and I out with all our Life and Income Protection needs. He provided a thorough explanation around all policy options which made it easy to decide what worked best for us.
Joshua and Ashleigh-Rose Branch
Scott was a pleasure to deal with and helped my partner and I make the right decisions when it came to our Insurance. We had a lot of questions but Scott was patient and never put us under pressure . He also helped to explain the benefits of KiwiSaver which we are both using now. Thanks again!
